grateful sunday

  • Tyler and I spoke in church today.  We are both super grateful it's over!  Our topic was "Gospel Living."  I admit, it was broad, and it was hard to narrow that down!  But I think they both went well and hopefully it will be another year before I have to do it again.
  • Maddie has taken her cooking to a new level.  She has helped with all the meals this weekend, including cleanup.  It's awesome!  We did a bunch of baking yesterday to be ready for a week of lunches.
  • No school tomorrow--they celebrate MLK Jr. day here with a day off!
  • Elle has finally, finally decided she can read.  She, of course, can read, but she always says she can't/won't/doesn't like it.  Reading is tough for her (she's much more math minded) which is hard for me to understand.  How could a child of mine not like reading?!?!  Anyway, she finished her first chapter book this weekend and I am SO proud of her.  And even though I'm NOT crazy about Junie B Jones (the bad grammar just kills me) I bought her 5 more books just to keep her going.   Get her hooked on reading, then we'll move to better examples.  So if you know some good series for 1st graders, clue me in.
  • The weather here is so amazing.  The kids were out all afternoon enjoying the sunshine. I love it.

Oh goodness, I cannot stomach the Junie B. Jones series either! Eliska LOVES all of the American Girl books, the mysteries are especially great! She also likes the Disney princess chapter books, which aren't bad.

My daughter latched onto the Junie B. Jones books as well. The bad grammar and behavior of the main character drives me nuts.

Way to go on reading Elle! Having that self confidence is huge.

That's great to read how well Maddie is doing with her cooking skills. Kudos on the cleanup, too.

I loved the Amber Brown books when I was Elle's age. And, of course, the Boxcar Children.

Katie has enjoyed the book series "My Weirder School". Cute books. I too do not like JBJ either. And the teachers at school read them :-(

We are totally into the Rainbow Fairy series. Not my fave, but Natalie's reading a ton, so I will take it!
